Service Staff

Full-time and Part-time opportunities.

Weekdays, weekend and seasonal holiday availability is required.

Start Date: Late August 2010

Service Staff at WtG have a variety of responsibilities needing the ability to be both outgoing and efficient.  They have a passion for providing sincere, personalized service and work with the rest of our team to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, while providing our fresh, house-made products to our guests dining in, or taking it to go.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing each guest with thoughtful service and individualized attention
  • Taking accurate food and beverage orders
  • Preparing a variety of Barista drinks
  • Serving, plating and packaging our beautiful and delicious food
  • Providing knowledgeable recommendations to our guests about our products
  • Operating the cash register
  • Ensuring the workspace and all guest areas are clean and organized
  • Keeping product displays stocked, fresh and beautiful
  • Working cooperatively with other departments to ensure a smooth operation

The ideal candidate for this position:

BAKER

Full time and Part-time positions

Early mornings, afternoons, weekday and weekend availability required

Start Date: August 2010

At WtG, our Bakers produce all of our spectacular breads, sweets and other delicious treats every day. Our Bakers are hardworking, dedicated and passionate about quality which is reflected daily in their work.

Responsibilities include:

  • preparation of batters, dough and dry mixes
  • baking breads, sweets, cakes, cookies and pies
  • following WtG recipes with precision and consistency
  • being responsible for and ensuring the quality of each product produced
  • cleaning and maintaining the workspace, baking equipment, and dishes
  • completing opening/closing tasks and closing down the building for the day
  • occasionally taking customer orders and/or serving customers at the Bakery counter.

Critical Skills and Behaviours:

  • the ability to plan, organize and multi-task throughout the day
  • the ability to communicate effectively and positively with team mates
  • the ability to effectively coordinate own tasks with those of others
  • the ability to read and interpret recipes and adjust according to environmental conditions

  • previous experience as a professional baker is an asset
  • this position requires frequent lifting, bending and standing

Dishwasher

Part-time position – weekday and weekend availability

At WtG we consider our Dishwashers to be a vital link in our daily operations. Your consistent attention to detail is appreciated by staff and customers alike!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a consistent stock of clean dishes for service and kitchen staff
  • Maintaining organization of dish rack and garbage in work areas
  • Completing daily and weekly cleaning and maintenance tasks
  • Checking and putting away orders and inventory
  • Bussing tables and providing support to other areas as required

Casual/Occasional

Café Attendant


Start Date: June 2010 Location: Alton, ON


Working at With the Grain’s Shaw’s Creek Café in the historic Alton Mill, the Café Attendant will assist with special event weekends and other occasional shifts providing our fresh and wholesome baked goods, pantry products and fair trade coffee to the artists and patrons of the galleries and studios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a warm, welcoming atmosphere consistent with WtG’s values and established service guidelines
  • Preparing and serving specialty coffee, cold beverages, baked goods and other treats
  • Providing product knowledge and promoting products, events and services of the Café and WtG
  • Ensuring all display and customer service areas are stocked, clean and visually appealing
  • Preparing baked goods, operating an oven and other kitchen equipment
  • Preparing ingredients and assembling salads and sandwiches to order
